Description: Learn to create mesmerising patterns on cloth, using a contemporary natural dyeing technique, also known as "bundle dyeing". Experience the beauty and delight of using local, seasonal flowers, with their bright colours, floral fragrances and soft velvety textures, scattered over cloth and dyed with a low-water use, steaming technique to extract and fix the botanical colours into cloth.
In this workshop you will learn the bundle dyeing technique, how to create different types of patterns, the best dye flowers to use for long lasting results, dye fixing and sustainable fabric sourcing info. You will make a lovely bundle dyed scarf, woven from organic British-grown silk. And be able to practice again and again in future, using your own clothing and fabrics, with the skills you have learned in class. Suitable beginners and more experienced dyers and can be used on all natural fibres.
This technique is one of the many found in Babs Behan's book "Botanical Dyes" (Quadrille books 2024) and one which she practices professionally from her Botanical Inks natural dye studio, with a range of organic silk garments and accessories - available to purchase online at www.botanicalinks.com. Follow @Botanicalinks on instagram for up-to-date news.
Signed copies of the book will be available to purchase on the day along with a collection of handmade items.
