Ink Making Workshop

INK MAKING Video Workshop

+ OPTIONAL KIT

A quick 15 min course looking at fresh leaf extraction (from nettle )and a powder extract :) x

(This is a edited recording from a recent online class).

Learn to extract colour from local plants and extracts, to make botanical inks suitable for drawing, writing & painting.

You can use other locally foraged and easily found plants (Try things such as nettle, bracken or dock along with garden produce and herbs such as sage, kale, dandelion, herb robert and food waste items like avocado skins/pits, carrot tops, purple cabbage ends, onion skins, used coffee grinds/tea bags, pomegrante skins and fallen leaves from houseplants). The example we use in this video is nettle leaf.

And extract powders such as madder, cochineal and marigold can be used with this technique also.

You will learn to create inks from fresh + dry plant matter plus dye extract powders, use natural binders for a suitable consistancy and modify colours to create wider range of colours using simple household substances such as vinegar & lemon juice

These inks can be stored for several months and used as a base to make printing mediums for block and screen printing.
