Join Babs Behan (Botanical Inks) and Toria Bitten (Flowers From The Plot) for a multi-sensual day of bundle dyeing and flower styling with beautiful seasonal flowers at Toria’s flower farm in Nempnett Thrubwell, a small village sheltered by the Mendip Hills, where her flowers are lovingly grown without the use of chemicals.
Bundle dyeing is a contemporary natural dye technique which allows for the direct transfer of botanical colours from flowers and plant materials into fabric, using a simple bind and steaming technique. A range of folding variations can achieve different pattern ways, a couple of which will be demonstrated in the class. A length of organic British-grown silk is provided and included in the cost of the class. More is also available to purchase on the day for an additional cost.
The day will look like this:
10.00 am Arrival, refreshments and introduction
11.00 am Select flowers and foliage that inspire you for your dyeing and for your bouquet making. There will be a selection of flowers cut especially for you, but you will also have the chance to cut more if you have spotted something you would particularly like to use
11.30 am Silk bundle dyeing practical session. Technique, materials and ideas to help you create your unique bundle dyed British organic silk.
12.30 pm A delicious 2 course lunch and a glass of wine – if you have any special dietary requirements please get in touch
1.15 pm Demonstration of bouquet making, depending on attendees, this will be made using either the traditional spiralling method, a chicken wire egg or taping. While demonstrating your bundles will be steaming!
1.45 pm Your chance to create your own bouquet
2.45 pm Open your bundle dyed silk and reveal your creation and put finishing flourish to your bouquet
3.15 pm Styling your dyed silk with your bouquet and the opportunity to photograph
3.45 pm Review of the day and pack up your silk and flowers to take home
