A day of botanical textile dyeing, using farm flowers, local wildcrafted plants and exotic natural dye pigments to imprint cloth with contemporary kaleidoscopic patterns, using the bundle-dye technique and organic British-grown silk cloth. For making into a scarf, cushion cover, ribbons, clothing or other creative projects, infused with herbal essences.
Bundle dyeing is an innovative process which by-passes the need for the dye pot, allowing for the direct transfer of plant dyes and their healing herbal qualities into cloth. Using intuitive herbalism, we will make healing textiles aligned with each individual’s needs. Using plant vinegars, steam and a variety of simple fold and bind techniques, a range of patterns can be achieved. Certain flowers, herbs and plant materials are used to achieve a variety of hues with colour fast results. A selection will be provided in class for you to work with, along with a very special, organic British-grown haboutai silk.
Along with gaining a new skill which you can repeat again and again for yourself, you will learn about intuitive herbalism, plant symbolism, natural dyeing, responsible foraging for local dyes and mordants, ceremonial textiles, and you will take away with you a beautifully natural dye printed silk cloth.
