Cornwall: Bundle Dyeing With Local Plants, Flowers and Food Waste @ Potager

  • The Potager TR11 5RF England (map)

A wonderful opportunity to visit Potager  garden & cafe in Cornwall and enjoy a morning of bundle dyeing in the greenhouse. Using local plants and flowers, some harvested from the garden, and food waste from the kitchen, to create beauteous bundle dyed silks to make into your own botanically printed scarf, using a very special organic British-grown silk. Followed by a delicious local, seasonal lunch in the Potager cafe.

Bundle dyeing is a simple yet innovative process which by-passes the need for the dye pot, allowing for the direct transfer of plant dyes and their herbal qualities into cloth.

This workshop will cover the process of bundle dyeing using a couple of different folding techniques to create different patterns. Information about selecting ecological fibres and preparing them for dyeing, plus finishing instructions will also be provided.

The workshop will run 10am - 1pm and be followed by a group lunch in the cafe until about 2pm or until we are ready to leave. The cafe is open until 5pm and lunch is served until 3pm.

Notes:

The cost of lunch is included in the ticket price and is for one main meal and one drink only per person. You are welcome to purchase additional items for yourself at an additional cost, which must be paid to the cafe directly.

A 1⁄2 metre (50 x 140cm) length of organic British-grown silk is provided and included in the price. More will also be available for additional purchase on the day. All other materials and equipment are also provided. You may wish to bring an apron, gloves or wear clothes which you don't mind getting messy, although the only mess will really be vinegar and flower petals and leaves. A notebook or camera to catalogue the creative journey may also be useful. Print outs will be provided to take away to remind you of the process.

Signed copies of the new Botanical Inks book will also be available to purchase on the day for £16.99.
